2012

I wore hot pink pants for my first outfit of 2012 today. (Yesterday didn’t count, I wore sweatpants and slept most of the day.)

I’m hoping they set the tone for an exciting and new and different year, full of change and being true to myself.

Blast from the past

{tunic: Bluenotes (old), tights: Winners; boots: Roberto Vianni; sunnies: Marc by Marc Jacobs}

These clothes are all very old. I think I bought this shirt about 6 years ago? Come to think of it, these tights are also really old, and I think they’re showing it, since they’re pretty faded! Might be time to splurge another $15 and get a new pair.

It’s kind of fun wearing old clothes though, clothes you’ve forgotten about and have to reach into the back of your closet before, because then it feels like Christmas and you’ve just opened an exciting new present.

…okay, maybe it’s not that exciting.

Shorter days

{dress: H&M; sweater: Jacob; blazer: Le Chateau; tights: Simon’s (Montreal); shoes: Chinese Laundry}

I never would have thought of wearing a dress as a skirt before I started oogling at fashion blogs. This dress is a little on the short side for work, it doesn’t quite clear my finger tips when I do the shortness test, but I figured with tights on underneath, what gives? Especially when some people out there just wear tights and a regular old shirt (don’t do it!). At least I had a one-up on them.

Sole hole

So I’ve decided that I’d really like to turn this blog into more of a fashion AND lifestyle blog. I looove fashion blogs so much, and I think the community of women out there who run them is just amazing and I want to be part of it!

I’m definitely not the most fashionable person, but I want to be pushed out of my style box a little bit, and not default to jeans and a tshirt when I’m stumbling around in the half-dark mornings. And why not have a bit of FUN with what you wear?!

{sweater: a little shop in Montreal; top: Smart Set; jeans: Dollhouse via Winners; boots: Roberto Vianni; necklaces: a combination of cheap Forever21, real turquoise, and gifted from a friend; sunnies: Marc by Marc Jacobs}

These boots are sure to make many appearances this fall and winter, as they’re super comfy and mostly rain-proof. Mostly. Until last week when it was pouring and I was outside decorating a van with “just married” signs (my job is strange sometimes) and I noticed a tiny hole in the sole that was getting my right foot all soggy. Sigh.

Aside from the rain, I am loving these first few real fall days. I’ve been drinking lots of cups of tea and spending time being cozy. I love how fall means spending time with family and friends and holding hands with your lover to stay warm. And my favourite meal of the whole year - Thanksgiving - is just over a week away!

Hooters

{shirt: Forever21, jeggings: Winners; boots: Roberto Vianni; necklace: Aldo Accessories}

This is my owl shirt. G calls it my hooter shirt. And he loves to say that he loves my hooters when I’m wearing it. I picked it up a couple weeks ago when I was down in Seattle and didn’t bring enough warm clothes!

I wore this outfit today to go to a craft market and then to grocery shop at the farmer’s market. So I guess it’s my marketing outfit! And then I came home and did some business marketing…?! Hehe. The sun actually came out by the time I left the house, so I swapped out the boots for some flats and tied my hair up instead.

My weekend was just lovely. Today was very relaxing, catching up on errands and chores, and feeling cozy inside while it rained and winded. Yesterday G was staying with me, and we pretended to be tourists, visiting Granville Island, doing a brewery tasting, wandering downtown, then settling in at a pub to watch the pre-season hockey game, and ended the evening on my patio with a glass of red wine and chatting in the un-seasonably warm night air.

I hope all your weekends were equally as nice :)

I told you I would stay

So I’m not sure what it is with Wednesdays and me posting daily styles… Very strange. Probably because by Wednesday I’m in the swing of the week, not quite so overwhelmed, and can think a bit about what I throw on in the morning!

{shirt: Forever21; jeans: Dollhouse via Winners; shoes: Payless; purse: Aldo}

I’m rather obsessed with the song “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear, and it’s sort of odd because I’m not usually so into indie music like this (is this even indie? I hate defining musical genres!) but man, I just can’t stop playing it! It brings me back a lot of memories of my last days living in Toronto a year ago, and I don’t know why but that makes me happy.

Life is busybusy at the moment. Well not even at the moment - it has been since I started this new job! I’m currently working at least 9-hour, and sometimes 10-hour days, and it is crazy man. It doesn’t leave a lot of time for a life! And then when I have a few hours, there’s so much relaxing and fun stuff I want to do - relaxing becomes busy too!

But I’m taking off work early this Friday and heading down to Seattle for a little get-away with my family, which will be a nice respite!

Onwards to pie baking! :D

Hump day daily style

Oh look, it’s a daily style post! Haven’t seen one of these guys in a while…

This is my lovely balcony with the view of a construction site. It’s not so bad actually, I kinda feel like it’s an authentic city view, and they are only ever banging and making a racket when I’m at work. However, once it starts getting a little higher, it will suck - the building is supposed to be the tallest condo building in the area. Great.

{ top: RW&Co; shorts: Hurley via Winners; shoes: Payless; purse: Aldo; bracelet: gifted from a friend }

I wore this outfit today to work, and also to do a bit of a cameo appearance on the TV show I work for - they couldn’t find an engaged couple to re-enact a wedding consultation, and soo it was suggested that the intern and I act as a cute happy couple-to-be in love. Oh man. Life sometimes!

Today felt like the loooongest day ever. Actually, I retract that, but it did feel reallllly long. At work today we had an hour-long educational lunch meeting, so I had no actual lunch, no actual get-away from the office and oh man I felt it. I really need that down time. Even if it’s only a half hour to run across the street to buy a sandwich, I need it. So this afternoon just dragged by and all I could think about was getting out of there!

Maybe that’s why this beer is tasting so fantastic right now. Because I’m drinking it at home, relaxing, doing what I want to do. I’m also drinking Rickard’s white, which is a beer that reminds me of last summer living in Toronto, and that’s pretty fantastic. Spring [and summer] is on its way, people!! And I can’t wait. But for a little while longer, I’ll still have to be content with sweaters and scarves.

Jenn and I went out for drinks last week, as we now do every week, to a new-ish wine and tapas bar downtown. (We’ve decided to go out once a week, wear a cute outfit, and have a drink at a new place, or somewhere we’ve never been before - very fun). I spotted this impressive large mirror near the bathrooms, and of course, outfit photos had to be snapped.

Also, the previously posted-about fantastic semi-tipsy idea was borne out of this evening, so watch yoselves.

Unrelated to these photos, I saw Dane Cook live tonight and it. was. wicked. He’s had butt sex with a porn star. No lies.

And you know what else? Life. is. good. :)

And for this Friday at work, it was dress what colour you think the baby is! I was BLUE for BOY! ;)

Fridays are becoming really fun at work. Ever since a few weeks ago 3 of us dressed in similar outfits, we’ve decided to do theme Fridays. Yesterday, it was red! And then we turned on the Christmas carols for the afternoon and it all felt very festive, especially since snow was in the forecast for the evening. (And by the way, a ton of radio stations are playing Christmas songs already.)
Tonight is my birthday party night! A week late, but I’m really okay about stretching out the festivities. My friends and I are heading out to a lovely Italian restaurant for yummy drinks and dessert. I am suuuper excited.
